Discover the diversity of Cognac vineyard soils | Discoveries

The land that creates legends
Holds the secret to its distinctive character deep within its vineyard soils

Cognac, the land that creates legends, holds the secret to its distinctive character deep within its vineyard soils. In the Cognac vineyards, we can mainly meet two categories of soil: groies and terres de Champagne.

Groies are characterized by their lightness and variable reddish hue. Composed of fine earth and limestone fragments, they are 15 to 25 cm thick.
Champagne soils, on the other hand, are dark gray to black in color, with a light, loose texture and a thickness of 15 to 20 cm, rich in limestone.

The diversity of soils in the Cognac appellation is a natural treasure bestowed by nature, and a vital reason why Cognac has become the world's finest spirit. Every inch of the land here embodies Cognac's history and cultural legacy. Let us cherish and protect this magical terroir togehther, ensuring the continuation of Cognac's legend.
